Children grow and learn in a complex, intertwined web of relationships, experiences, and environments. Parents, who have an earlier and more sustained presence in their children’s lives than teachers (even once they begin to attend school, children only spend about 10% of their time there), consequently have an enormous opportunity to help encourage, support, and normalize early STEM learning. This session will share regional and community strategies that engage families in everyday locations like restaurants, grocery stores, parks, and laundromats in mathematical thinking that is accessible and fun in daily life.
